“Nae Excuse” Anti Sectarian Project
“Sectarianism is not someone else’s problem. It is an issue for all of us”. (Stand Up to Sectarianism, Scottish Government).
Recognising that sectarianism is complex and multi layered and that it is taking place daily across society it’s important that young people are equipped to understand it if they are to challenge it. PYP intends to develop a programme that educates young people aged 10 to 18 years across Glasgow North East about sectarianism, prejudice, bigotry and discrimination. It will provide information and develop appropriate resources that will assist in the challenging and changing of ingrained attitudes and behaviours. This project will be proactive alongside partners in putting sectarianism on the agenda and in particular using peer education as a way to challenge it.
Some of the Projects taking place include our T-Shirt Slogan Competitions which is where our “Nae Excuse for Sectarianism” came from. Young people have been also taking part in workshops and are looking at creating some pieces of drama. In the new year we are also hoping to pilot a Football Programme in partnership with Rangers and Celtic Football Coaches.
